Cheetos and freeways

We set off about four hours early for our trip to my sister's home.
Right now we're passing "The Happiest Place On Earth" while consuming
snack bags of delightfully disgusting junk food.

Happy Monday!

Henry

Here we are, it's Monday again. I spent my weekend trying to learn CSS, but what I really learned was that I don't even know HTML. I have always labeled myself as a "print designer" so that I could shy away from the evils of web design. I had managed solely as a print designer until just recently one of my clients kept asking me to update their website. How could I say no to a steady paycheck? I dug out my Adobe disks and installed Dreamweaver and after a few weeks I was humming along editing text. Of course, once you do a little text editing then the client needs pictures and press releases posted. Suddenly entire days were being filled with web edits! What? Begrudgingly, I decided it was about time to officially learn the internets.

And let me tell you, if you have an engineer for a husband and you start talking code not only does he not stop pawing at you but he buys you fun toys like this new little printer.

POGO

The Polaroid POGO wirelessly prints little stickers. One online review said it was "great for teen girls." To which Thomas replied, "That's how I knew you'd love it!" Thanks, hon.

Oh, and Saturday also brought this! Very exciting.

Join me

I have a huge and underwhelming fascination with the idea of doing chores around the house. Laundry makes me crazy. The dishes can make me cry on any given day. And don't even talk to me about scrubbing the toilet. Did I mention I am known among family to have an immense hatred for the vacuum cleaner? I enjoy being at home, cooking and doing domestic hobbies but please, never, EVER accuse me of keeping a good house. I am not a housewife, a homemaker or other such female pejorative. I am allergic to housework. Violently.

Which leads me to my new website, Housework Rules! (to be said with the thickest sarcasm you can slather on). Go, check it out. Find new ways to avoid daily chores with inspiration and products from your favorite hobbies including knitting, cooking, gardening, scrapbooking, sewing and paper. I know I'm not alone. I know you hate housework too.

Vintage Jazzercise

I had a little searching out old Jazzercise videos on YouTube. The woman in the middle, Judi Sheppard Missett is the creator of the 80s sensation Jazzercise.

We do a lot of the same movements in class today, but thankfully those leotards are not in fashion anymore!

I've been going to Jazzercise for about 15 weeks now and it's helped me to be more fit again. My tummy isn't as flat as I'd like just yet but it doesn't ooze out of the top of my pants anymore. My posture great and my balance is much better (better balance is a good thing, I used to be able to hit a wall while standing still, my long limbs need core strength I guess!). This is what it looks like today, new music and lots of fun.

My new favorite show

I've been sitting here trying to come up with something to blog about and I haven't had much luck. All I seem to think about is what needs watering or weeding in my garden, what I'm going to make for dinner, or what time I'm going to watch another episode of Weeds.

Ah, Weeds.

I had heard about the Showtime show several times over the years but never really looked into it. Then at Christmas we were visiting some friends in Pennsylvania and the conversation turned to talking about the show. I mentioned I hadn't seen it and immediately my friend leapt out of her chair to lend me the Season 1 DVD. Here it is July and I still had not watched it.

But now, my world is changed.

The characters and plot lines of Weeds have infested my brain and filtered in to my everyday thoughts. Thomas ordered this little Roku box that hooks up to stream movies and shows directly from Netflix. It connects over wi-fi, we can search for titles, pause movies, and hold on to them for as long as we'd like. Of course we didn't hold on to Weeds for very long. We flew through the first two seasons in about three days and then we thought it was over and we'd have to wait for the next season. Not the case, we just had to wait for the next DVD to arrive in the mail. It's been five long and suffering days but it is here, the Season 3 DVD. Alleluia!
