Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to my Mom and my Mummy! I think my mother and my mother-in-law are my two biggest blog readers, commenters and fans. They both love looking at the photos from my garden and we always end up talking about plants on any given phone call. I've learned a lot about gardening from both of them and I know my garden wouldn't be half of what it is without their passed on knowledge. So cheers to the two mothers in my life, I love you both!

And here's some photos of the garden just today for you to enjoy!

Maybe food is my yoga?

I really love food. And as I've grown up I've come to really enjoy making food. There's something so fascinating about taking the same ingredients, like flour, eggs, sugar and salt, adding a few other items, changing the quantities and seeing what the result will be. And there's something about cooking and baking that is really soothing to me. I can get lost in kneading a yeast dough or watching the mixer spin. The kitchen is a steady constant that always yields a delicious reward.

Saturday style, refashioned skirt

I picked up a dress from the Old Navy clearance rack simply because I was drawn to the print. I noticed at the time that there were a bunch of the same dress on the rack in all different sizes but I didn't care and I bought it anyway. It was cheap! And I loved the stripes and color combination!

I wore the dress once and I hated it. I felt fat, the waist was too high, the neck was too big and the arms were gathered just below the elbow in just the wrong way that made everything on top look huge. Gross. I wasn't going to wear it ever again. A couple days ago I noticed it hanging in the closet and the thought of altering it popped into my head. Should I take it in, cut the sleeves? A skirt, how about that?! I ran off to get my pinking shears, I cut the bodice off and voila! Since it's knit I don't need to seam it and I've got a cute, casual drawstring skirt I love!

Decadent, rich and delightful with a side of crazy

triple chocolate mousse cake Let's just start by saying. HOLY SHIT, I HAVE NEVER MADE SOMETHING SO AMAZING. I'm not even going to put an exclamation point because I'm sure you get the idea. Things have been pretty hectic around here recently so I haven't taken the time to blog, and I miss it. I think this cake is worth coming out of blogging hibernation. It's beyond worth it. You need to see this cake. You need to love this cake. It's my new go-to recipe and Thomas has already put it on the holiday baking list. And I have to agree. If I could legally marry this cake I totally would. It's a triple chocolate mousse cake. Wow. Let's just think about that for a second. triple chocolate mousse cake One. Two. Three layers of chocolate. The bottom layer is a decadent flourless chocolate cake that's deep, dark and full of drama. It grips the back of your tongue and holds on for dear life. Then the second layer is a fluffy, rich chocolate mousse that's light and very creamy. Then you top it off with a cool, mild white chocolate mousse that turns the entire experience into edible velvet. We found the recipe on America's Test Kitchen, a cooking show on PBS. We've tried tons of their recipes and each time they've turned out perfectly just like on the TV show. This cake was no exception. I wish I had some more right now.

Hi, from my new table!

our new pub table

We picked up a new outdoor pub table for our patio this weekend. It's the perfect height to enjoy some eggs in the morning or a quick beer after work. Like right there! My iPad and I are enjoying a little break time. I hope you're summer's bright and sunny.
